AT this time of year our thoughts have been with our parents, who endured the Second World War.

Our fathers were sent off to fight and our mothers were working hard on farms and in munitions factories, working 12-hour shifts six days a week.

The point of this letter is that as I was walking to my local paper shop, I noticed school children wearing outfits based on cartoon characters, all for a good cause in aid of Pudsey and Children in Need. But on the down side, there were four children wearing their bona fide uniforms with Remembrance poppies attached.

They were asked to leave the school premises because they had failed to ask for permission to wear their uniforms in class.

So when our politically correct thought police hold their next meeting at the school, please can common sense prevail.

I live in hope.
