ON Monday I was delighted to have William Smith and his parents, Rachel and Richard, come down from Stourbridge and visit me in Parliament.

William, who is six years old and attends Greenfield Primary School, wrote to me last year asking what it is like to be an MP. So I invited him to come and see for himself!

It was wonderful to see someone so young interested in Parliament and I am delighted that his family enjoyed their visit.

Afterwards I attended an event to mark the start of Big Energy Saving Week. This provides advice on saving money and energy to more than 100,000 consumers. I met Citizens Advice and representatives from energy companies to discuss how Stourbridge residents can get a better deal for their energy and access to help.

On Tuesday I dropped by a reception for tourist attractions across the West Midlands and met Peter Suddock, CEO of Dudley Zoo. Dudley Zoo is an excellent establishment and I was very interested to hear more about their recent work.

I also attended a briefing with Chris Grayling MP, the Secretary of State for Justice. Chris is doing very good work improving literacy in prisons. He is also bringing in a Bill to end automatic release for prisoners guilty of particularly serious offences.

This week I am meeting Christine Braddock, the Principal of Birmingham Metropolitan College. When BMET took over Stourbridge College they gave certain assurances about the identity of the college and other matters. Not all of these assurances have been met and several people at the college have complained to me about these breaches.

So I am looking forward to discussing this issue with Christine and hopefully working to reach a solution that benefits Stourbridge students.

Next weekend I will be visiting the Three Villages Medical Practice to meet practice manager, Sandra Sutton, to discuss our ongoing work to have a permanent blood testing service at the Wollaston surgery.

National Voter’s Day also falls next weekend, and I am hoping to meet with some local students to talk with them about why voting and politics is important. I will also be holding one of my regular advice surgeries which is an opportunity for me to meet local residents and help them with any ongoing issues they are facing.
