We are writing to let your readers know of a very special Christmas appeal by Christian Aid for Christmas 2014.

Donations made to the appeal between November 7th 2014 and February 6th 2015 will support much needed improvements to Maternity and Child health services in Kenya and Malawi.

Importantly the UK government has committed to matching £1.00 for £1.00 all appeal donations made during this period up to £5 million.

So £2.50 donated by a reader (doubled by the UK government) would provide a day’s training for a community health worker in Kenya.

Your readers can donate by texting HOPE6 to 83080 to donate £3.00.

They can also phone 0845 700 0300 or donate via the website christianaid.

In Kenya less than half of all births are attended by a medical professional. Hospitals and clinics are few and far between. 40 women die every day from complications in pregnancy or labour. Christian Aid is working with their partner the Anglican Development Service Mount Kenya East (ADSMKE) to improve maternity services across Kenya. They are helping to provide 4x4 ambulances to get women safely to hospital, building local maternity wings and equipping them with everything from delivery beds to incubators and training community health workers and traditional birth attendants to make sure expectant mothers get the support they need.”

On behalf of Christian Aid nationally we would also like to thank the people of Stourbridge for all their support in Christian Aid Week over many years: this year the street and town collections raised £12,851-77 --thank you all very much.

We wish your readers a joyful Christmas and a peaceful New Year.

On behalf of Stourbridge Christian Aid Committee Hugh and Virginia Williams Oldswinford
