NOT long ago I recall a complaint letter was published, concerning a silly April Fool's Day prank that was broadcast by the 'Bridge, which was generally felt by readers not to be a justifiable complaint. However I wonder how many readers would agree that this complaint concerning the 'Bridge's Drivetime show of last Wednesday the 4th or Thursday 5th June, is fully justified.

The show was hosted by Mr Phil Tonks, who was "assisted" by Chris Williams, who came across as an immature, very egotistical young man, whose contributions appeared to be regular outbursts, mainly centred on himself, trying (yes he was very trying) to tell listeners, as I recall, what a lad he was, and how he considered himself a bit of a ladies' man.

However his main 'contribution' to the show was a puerile attempt at supposed humour, when he asked Mr Tonks if he had a party piece, to which he replied not really.

Chris Williams then went on to gleefully inform us that he did have one - he could fart and belch at the same time. What a fantastic wag eh?? But rather than shut him up, which he should have done, Mr Tonks appeared to engage him further on the subject, giving the impression that he was even condoning it.

What surprised me was that this young man is shown on the 'Bridge website as being a regular presenter.

If so I would suggest that the 'Bridge's selection process for presenters is badly flawed and needs a radical overhaul.

I am 73, not prudish, nor am I a self-styled Mary Whitehouse, and I am not easily shocked or offended.

But what I do not need is moronic, tasteless outbursts from some childish young shaver being inflicted upon me over the airways, thank you very much.

Maybe in this current climate of lax moral and media values, other readers may well feel that metaphorically speaking, this email was not worth putting pen to paper for.

Well I do, and I am sure that Ofcom would be far from pleased to hear of it - this was an appalling piece of gratuitous, offensive broadcasting.

If Chris Williams felt that such an outburst was a harmless bit of fun, then clearly he has no place on the 'Bridge as he has no concept of what local community radio is about, and has no respect for himself, the station, or most importantly the listeners.
