DURING the forthcoming Veterans week on June 22, 2008 my colleagues and I have arranged to present to the Christ Church at Lye a Memorial book and housing, to honour and remember the servicemen from the Lye and Wollescote area who gave their lives in action during World War 2 and who are listed on the beautiful stained glass window in the memorial chapel.

During the course of our research of the 49 names on the stained glass memorial window within the church we have discovered a further 9 men from the area, who also lost their lives, some of whom are buried in Lye and Wollescote cemetery. The names and history of these are now included in the memorial book.

It has also been noted that the War memorial outside the church has a recent inscription, namely 1939-45 which possibly gives the impression that the names listed on this memorial are for both World War 1 and World War 2. This is not so, the World War 2 casualties are named on the beautiful stained glass window in the memorial chapel inside the church.

The presentation will be at 6.30pm on Sunday June 22, 2008 at a short service of dedication to which relatives and friends and the general public are cordially invited.
