SCHOOLCHILDREN in India who were being deprived of basic stationery have been saved by Wordsley youngsters.

Pupils at Fairhaven Primary School filled four boxes full of school supplies and have shipped them across the world to a school in Kerala.

Dave Lowe, headteacher, said: “Early in December we were made aware of a school in India which was struggling for schools supplies, especially stationery.

“In the lead up to Christmas, we wrote to all the parents asking for them to kindly donate stationery and we only expected one or two pieces from each pupils and small bits.

“But we were overwhelmed with the amount the children gave. They brought in lots of newly sealed packs of pens, pencils and crayons.

“In the end we were able to fill four large parcels full of items which we took to the post office to be delivered to the school in Kerala.”

Mr Lowe said the stationery has since arrived in India and is now set to be distributed among the pupils.

He added: “I must thank all the pupils who gave so generously and to my team of staff which helped collect and send off all of the stationery.”

Margaret Claridge, whose grandson Elliot Adamson was one of the pupils who donated stationery, said: “It was such a good thing the school and the children have been doing.

“I know my grandson was very keep to make a donation to help the children less fortunate in India.”
