HALESOWEN gymnast Kristian Thomas has won gold at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

The Earls Gymnastics Club member won the men's team final along with team mates Louis Smith, Max Whitlock, Sam Oldham and Nile Wilson.

Thomas follows in the footsteps of Jodie Stimpson, Jessica Varnish and Helen Scott to claim medal joy for the area.

The men's team won the comeptition this afternoon with a score of 266.804 despite team mate Sam Oldham sustaining a serious ankle injury when falling from the vault.
