Swimming club celebrates best National Championship performance

HALESOWEN Swimming Club is celebrating after its most successful National Championships.

Chloe Finch, Hannah Taleb, Josh Bradley and Richard Spoor, all members of club, put in brilliant displays at the in Sheffield from Tuesday, August 5 to Sunday, August 10.

Chloe Finch pulled off a stunning victory in the 800m freestyle before Richard Spoor made it an incredible double by winning gold in the 200m breaststroke.

Finch, 16, competing for City of Birmingham, had another gruelling competition schedule and, after competing at the National Youth Team Championships in Portugal just two weeks ago, made the shorter trip to Sheffield for the ASA National Championships.

She competed on all six days of the championships and started in fine style on day one by making it through to the 200m freestyle semi-final.

On day two it was an amazing gold medal performance in the 800m freestyle to grab top spot on the podium and a great swim to finish fifth in the 200m freestyle final.

Day three saw another semi-final in the 100m Freestyle and then on day five a ninth place finish in the final of the 400m individual medley.

The final day saw she through to the final of the 400m freestyle and, after qualifying in sixth place, pulling off an amazing performance in the final to win a silver medal and just missed out on top spot by 0.19 seconds.

Richard Spoor, 21, competing for Loughborough University, was taking on the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and qualified for every final.

He qualified in first place in the 100m but was forced to settle for bronze. In the 50m, the competition was fierce with Spoor well placed in sixth.

The 200m saw an incredible performance to grab national gold by almost 1.5 seconds from his nearest rival.

Josh Bradley, 21, was competing in the 50m and 100m butterfly and narrowly missed on out on semi-final places after two fine swims.

Hannah Taleb, 16, competing for Hamilton UAE, took part in all three breaststroke events and also produced three excellent performances to round off the most successful ever National Championships for swimmers from Halesowen Swimming Club.
