DUDLEY Kingswinford were able to overcome both the difficult challenge faced by Worcester as well as the elements in their win on Saturday.

DK secured a tight 17-10 victory as the side returned to Heathbrook at the weekend, moving the team within five points of joint league leaders Burton and Bromsgrove.

Director of rugby Neil Shillingford was pleased with the way his players were able to claim the win in difficult conditions.

He said: “We really had to dig the win out. Obviously the weather had a big say in the game, and didn’t make it easy for either team.

“I’m pleased with the win, but I am a bit disappointed that we didn’t get the bonus points.

“We had some good opportunities for the try bonus, but this was the kind of game when you just take the win and move on to next week.

“Worcester are a good outfit and really made life tough for us and with the elements the way they were it was never going to be a free flowing game of rugby, so I’m happy with the win.”

DK will look to keep their good form going as they host Hereford on Saturday (3pm kick-off) and the team will be boosted by the return of Jordan Brookes who was missed the Worcester win.

Shillingford added: “We beat Hereford in the cup pre-season down at their place, but they are a very much improved outfit overt the last few years.

“They are a talented young team but I do think we have a very strong set up here which should make it a great game.

“We still have a few guys out injured long term, but we should have Jordan Brookes back this weekend which is a big plus for us.

“But we will continue doing what we’re doing to try and get another positive result.”
