Tivvy's title charge frustrated by weather
11:59am Thursday 30th January 2014 in Football
MIDLAND Alliance title favourites Tividale suffered a midweek defeat at Stourport Swifts before another weekend of wet weather only added to their frustration.
Tivvy Spokesman Leon Murray admitted: “We just need to be playing games now and we needed that game against Swifts.
“I thought we were the better side but we found ourselves 2-1 down at half time, when the referee told us he was considering abandoning the game if conditions got any worse.
“The conditions proved a great leveller in the second half and we threw everything at Swifts but the kitchen sink. Credit to them, they defended well”.
Nathan Waite had put Tivvy in front but Swifts struck back through Dan Parker and Jamie Hyde.
GORNAL Athletic remain rooted to the bottom of the table after losing out 2-1 in midweek against AFC Wulfrunians.
Nathan Rose-Laing and Jordan Perks supplied first half goals for Wulfs with Ben Evans pulling a goal back after the break.
Gornal travel to Walsall Wood on Saturday and then host Causeway United the following Tuesday.
Tividale host Kirby Muxloe on Saturday and then entertain Coleshill Town on Tuesday.
ONLY one match survived the wet weather in this week’s Dudley and Cradley League with Bunch beating Lloyds 4-1 in the Dalley Cup.
The match resembled ‘Bambi on Ice’ as players struggled to keep their footing but Mitchell Ward managed to put Bunch 1-0 up at half time.
Jason Witts levelled for Lloyds within two minutes of the second half, but Mitchell Ward soon restored the advantage before Craig Hall made it 3-1 to Bunch.
Ward went onto complete his hat-trick from the penalty spot as conditions got progressively worse.
